"A cow’s life starts with giving, continues with giving and ends with giving."
It’s birth impels her mother to ooze out love in form of life giving milk. As a calf, it sacrifices its own portion of milk to
nourish the children of mankind. As a bull, it works tirelessly under the sun to produce our daily bread. As the mother cow,
it gives birth year after year so that our cup is full of milk at our desire. While its dung rejuvenates the land naturally,
her urine cures countless diseases. If a lifetime of service is not enough, the Mother cow departs leaving her skin to
make the holy instrument Mridunga and her remnants, wherever buried, rejuvenates even
the most barren parcel of the land upto one acre.
Thus, a sacred life of cow is invested in sustaining us, our loved ones and Mother Earth from start till end.
In return, all that Mother Cow asks for is grass costing just Rs 2 / kg.
" Should we need more reasons to at least adopt one cow in one life? "
If each one cares for at least one cow in one’s life time, millions of cows can be saved.
This inspiration has led to Urban Gopalak, an initiative by ISKCON BGIS to connect every
urban home with a heart for cows with a cow of their own, almost like a new member joining
your family.
Thus, it all starts with the adoption of a cow with a meagre periodic contribution to support
her daily meals and general care at a boundaryless Cows habitat called Surabhi Gau Gram,
where cows are loved as persons respecting their unique identity and necessities as much
as we value our own.
Just because your cow stays far, however, does not mean an end to your association with
her. Rather, the Urban Gopalak Journey is designed such that you get to see her growing
and take deeply meaningful, regular and even personal association of each other as if you
had a child living in a hostel under the guidance of a loving team of caretakers.
There are many reasons for you to register yourself in this beautiful journey, but none
matches the blessings of the Mother Cow whose voice may be weak, but blessings are
unimaginably powerful.
Sign up here and choose the type of cow you wish to
adopt and your preferred mode of contribution.
A welcome kit awaits carrying her special name chosen
from the holy scriptures, her pictures, how she looks like,
her unique identification features including her height,
weight, width, a healthy cow history and so on. The journey has
begun!
The next post is not just about seeing her. It’s about knowing her through a video that would describe her likes, dislikes, her favourite food, her story of naughtiness and stubbornness to stay under control, any fights she has had or any other interesting stories your ears are keen to hear about her
It's been sometime but you must be wishing to see your beloved gaiyya. Check your inbox for a video where you will see her in total action – may be eating, sleeping, drinking water, grazing or just simply chewing and basking in the sunshine of your protection.
The much awaited day between the two of you is here.
She has been decorated, Puja samagri is ready and just
awaiting your arrival and her gift. Of course, you can
come on video too.
Next two days, see yourself & other Gopalaks in a new
avatar – dressed in Dhoti & Kurta or Braj Gopi attire like a
true Gopalak and get to bathe her, feed her, even take
her out for grazing – alongside discovering Shri
Vrindavan Dham with us.
Keep getting your periodic updates, make as
many surprise visits to see your Gaiyya and if
your kids or the Mother inside you can’t resist
meeting her, book an e-meeting with her
anytime and let the bond grow.
Surabhi Gau Gram (‘SGG’) is not limited to a physical space but It’s a thriving eco-system
where care for cows is truly personalized and her dignity is maintained. Click on the
building blocks of SGG to discover about your cow's thriving community.
Heart of Surabhi Gau Gram is a centralized facility housed within the 60 acre
picturesque campus of ISKCON BGIS in Braj Vrindavan Dham. This facility is not just a
shelter for cows, but an analytics enabled cow care and cow product training facility
supported by NDRI and NSDC where all the data from the minutest health incident to
frequency of bathing to fodder is collated to give real time insights on cow care. We also
train here hundreds of farmers annually on the holistic methods of cow care and utilizing
dung and urine as alternative sources of income.
If we move outside the centralized facility, we will find a large forest with 10,000+ trees that
is utilized as a common grazing land. This is where we, along with our
fellow villagers, come together on a daily picnic of grazing cows along with their lunch
boxes!
Further away from the campus, we are identifying and converting Gaushalas in need into Surabhi Homes, actively supervised by us and managed as per
the standards we follow in our main base facility.
Finally, our community has many Urban Gopalak families living across India and abroad who may be physically far apart but deeply integrated in the
ecosystem of Surabhi Gau Gram with the common goal of protecting the world, Cow by Cow.
Urban Gopalak is an initiative of ISKCON BGIS, the education and rural development wing of ISKCON working since 1975
with the objective of transforming the socio-economic condition of rural India via free academic and value education,
skill development and empowerment of farm communities.

Our intent is to engage as many kind hearted individuals to protect at least one cow in a lifetime. Depending on one's capacity, we encourage Gopalaks to adopt a cow exclusively or join hands with one or more Gopalaks to co-adopt a cow. We encourage Gopalaks to contribute on annual or quaterly basis for smooth and uninterrupted service to cows.
Urban Gopalak’s mission is to reach out to as many good hearted individuals and honest cow shelters as possible. Besides the cost for cow
care that can be covered by the Urban Gopalaks, we seek general donations to cover many other expenses in the supervision of cows as well
as construction of suitable infrastructure. Please contribute and join the movement to arrange a happy home for every cow of the world.
